Pamela Martinez

Pamela Martinez emerges onto the electronic pop music scene with a fury of words, images, and sounds. She builds a theatrical atmosphere that captures her audience with haunting vocals and expressive string arrangements. This new evolution of rock replaces the guitar with the violin giving an otherworldly yet strangely familiar sensation to this singer/songwriter.

Originally from Texas, Pamela’s music echoes the painted hues and tones of San Antonio’s vividly pastel nightscape. She started playing the violin at the age of 10. Not content with the predictable musical path of a classically-trained string player, she soon began improvising and writing her own music. By age 18, she plugged in her violin and started playing electric at local venues every weekend. Around this time, Pamela also began writing songs on guitar and piano. By 1997, Pamela had formed a band called Mixolydian. Her new role as a singer rounded out her songwriting dexterity. Mixolydian explored blends of rock and classical in combination with less traditional instruments like wind chimes, buckets, pots, and anything else they could make noise with.

In January of 2000, Pamela moved to Boston and formed her next band, Ideoplastic. Ideoplastic unleashed yet another twist of modern pop while still maintaining the personality of Pamela’s previous projects. With this group, they complimented their arrangements for electronics and strings with a raw and lively rhythm section. Michael Teoli of Boston’s The Groove wrote, "Ideoplastic paints wonderful textures not often found in popular music. Ideoplastic brings the strings right up front."

Pamela’s current project, called Teletextile, is her most bold and powerful performing group yet. She has put down her violin and stepped to the front of the stage as lead vocalist and composer. Her vocals are backed by a string section of violin and cello, a rhythm section of keyboards, bass, and drums, as well as her usual samples and electronics. This larger ensemble mixes in groove and trip-hop elements to create a fuller, danceable sound.

While not writing music for her own band, Pamela finds time to collaborate with other artists, such as Ganucheau, Kcinsu, Color & Talea, and a2ndspace. Pamela is also involved in her own textile arts/production company under the name Teletextile. Pamela continues her innovation with the release of her self-titled debut EP. Her beautiful voice and passionate songwriting have finally borne fruit, and will continue to blossom with Teletextile.
