The Witnesses

The Witnesses are a rock and roll band from New York City.

Formed in the late summer of 2001, The Witnesses sold out their debut gig at Manhattan's Luna Lounge, then quickly separated themselves from the pack as one of the hottest bands in the City's resurgent rock scene. At a time when we all really needed it, word got around that The Witnesses were something most people had all but forgotten... a rock and roll band that is just plain fun.

Drummer Will Scott and bass player Kenan Gunduz get the room moving by locking down every tune with tight, propulsive grooves while guitarists Oakley Munson and Darien Zahedi and keyboard player Bonnie Bloomgarden pump, slide, and squeeze R'n'B inflected lines through songs that all bear the unmistakable Witnesses sound... raw, raucous and rousing, swinging, stinging and all the way live. Oh, and another thing about The Witnesses: five members, five singers.

With the spirit of punk and the soul of the blues poured into songwriting that is sharp, smart and witty, The Witnesses are winning over fans who've been starving for more than a fad, more than a trend, who want the real thing.

The Witnesses have packed New York's top clubs (Mercury Lounge, CBGB, Irving Plaza, etc.) and have toured with the Donnas throughout the U.S. and with Har Mar Superstar in the U.K., and were recently included, along with The Strokes, Interpol, and Longwave, on the Yes New York compilation of the best NYC rock bands. Signed to Howler Records in February 2004, The Witnesses have just finished recording their first full-length album, to be released in September of this year.
