Thulsa Doom
February 1999, record producer and Black Debbath guitarist Ole Petter Andreassen forms Thulsa Doom. Through his studio in Oslo, Norway, Ole (aka El Doom) began to hand-pick the current lineup of one of Europes most highly-anticipated doom metal bands. Ole had finally settled on Tobias Doom (vox), Winston Doom (drums), Johnny Doom (guitar), and Herman Doom (bass), and in record time, two songs were written and recorded. "Cities After Cheese" and "She Fucks Me" (also the title of the band's EP) were the first two tracks cut by the band for their debut EP release on Spanish label Safety Pin Records. However, before the entire EP could be recorded, Herman Doom, due to a consuming drug problem, had to be replaced by Black Debbath bassist Angelov Doom. Three more tracks were written and recorded and the EP was finally released. In an extremely short amount of time, Thulsa Doom were climbing the ranks of the doom metal genre, and if that wasnt enough, in 2000, Ole and his band were handed a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Album. Black Debbath won by beating out fellow Norwegians Kovenant and Dimmu Borgir.
July 2000 saw the band entering Caliban Studios to record their debut full-length release entitled The Seats Are Soft, But The Helmet Is Way Too Tight. The record had already been recorded before California-based extreme label This Dark Reign heard of the band. However, after the first listen, This Dark Reign immediately signed the band and put the wheels in motion for a world-wide release of one of the greatest doom metal albums ever recorded. A European tour is already in motion and a video for the song "Sins Of The Next Man" is getting video play throughout Europe. It is not known when the band may wash up on the shores of North America, but a widely available record is guaranteed.
You might be asking yourself why Ole decided to start another band of the same genre when he already had an incredibly successful band? Well, the answer is a simple one, language. Black Debbath, though they play some of the most explosive doom metal ever heard, sing in Norwegian. A language not exactly understood by the masses. That being said, Thulsa Doom is a band that all others are measured and compared. Thulsa Doom is the future of the genre and they plan to take it with a fearsome force and energy not heard until now. One listen and youll know why were all doomed.
August 2001 saw the band's debut release, and 2002 will see the reissue of their debut EP She Fucks Me on This Dark Reign Recordings as a precursor to their second release currently being written and recorded as we speak. The band recently received an astounding 10 out of 10 from Custom Heavy Magazine for The Seats Are Soft... and there are more on the way.
Fans of Thulsa Doom should check out The Cumshots, Black Debbath, and Caliban Sessions for their fill. All bands are top-notch and offer up some of the most talented musicians and songwriters we have performing today.
