The Crüxshadows

The Crüxshadows (croo-shadows) were formed in 1992 by an art student named Rogue and two computer programmers at Florida State University. The trio began to create a dark and danceable sound, inspired by brooding eighties popsters like Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, and the Eurythmics, yet updated by influences from modern synthpop and Europe's EBM (Electronic Body Music) scene. Their sound has progressed through eleven years and many different members. Now a foursome, the band has released five full-length albums, four EPs, and tracks for a number of compilations, including a T.Rex tribute and Pet Shop Boys tribute CD.

In 2002, the band played nearly 120 live shows around the world, spending several months on tour in Europe, followed by an exhaustive US tour. Despite being considered a relative "newcomer" band by the European scene, The Crüxshadows have rocketed to bona fide star status there, with a huge and devoted fanbase, countless interviews and features in full color glossy major market publications, and even appearances on Germany's Onyx Music Television network.

Still led by frontman Rogue, The Crüxshadows are known for their dynamic and engaging stage persona, as well as their sometimes otherworldly yet sensitive lyrical content, sharply juxtaposed with a dance/electronic sound. Unlike other dancefloor driven entities, they also make use of the electric guitar & the electric violin, delivering a sound that seems both new and old, blending elements of the eighties with modern technology... but is unmistakable to anyone who is familiar with their music.

Their tracks have become dancefloor staples at underground club nights literally around the world, and their signature song, "Marilynn, My Bitterness" has been established as a classic genre track. The lead single to their last album, "Tears," reached #2 on the German Alternative Charts (DAC) and has appeared on numerous compilations since its release, buoyed in part by fabulous remixes from Robbie Tronco and Warner Bros. artist Apoptygma Berzerk. Their most recent single, "Winterborn," also charted at #2 on the DAC. Their brand new album, Ethernaut, is expected to receive similar acclaim.

The Crüxshadows are among the most popular and fastest-rising bands in the modern American synthpop and "newer wave" scenes. Until The Voices Fade, a limited edition EP released in 1999, quickly went out of print in four months and is now a sought-after collector's item, fetching up to $80 on Ebay. Their latest release, Ethernaut, is thematically built around the Trojan Wars of ancient Greece, and the band's live show on their current tour also centers around this theme.

The Crüxshadows have appeared in countless magazines and newspapers throughout the USA and Europe, including on the cover of Zillo Magazine in October 2003. The band has performed several national tours, a number of special events and even a few conventions, including the (25,000+ attendance) Dragon Con event in Atlanta for the past several years in a row. The Frozen Embers 2003 Tour took The Crüxshadows through Europe for three months, all over the USA for another three months, and then back to Europe again by popular demand from mid-November through mid-December.

Their music has appeared on MTV's Making The Video series, ABC World News Now, and the soundtrack to the popular roleplaying game Vampire: The Masquerade (3 million + players worldwide; soundtrack charted Top 40 on CMJ's RPM Chart).
