Tenki
Like Chicago's weather, Tenki can be moody: Sunny, hot and sticky. Cloudy, cold and icy. Formed in 1999 after three of its five members migrated to this city, they've since played her clubs and a soon to be release View of an Orbiting Man - a lyrical canvas of relations and emotions filled with guitar-driven washes, horns, and keyboards. Derived pop influences and/or similarities may peek through here and there: A Beatle-esque bass line, a Clash swagger, a not so brain-damaged Flaming Lips-style arrangement, or a Built to Spill-ish vocal riff. But those references are just threads in Tenki's tight, rock tapestry. Live, they hurl a kitchen sink full of shifting rifts, bright trumpet flares, earthy guitar buzzes, percussive wallops, driving bass lines, old-school keyboards - and energy - lots of energy!
Tenki View of an Orbiting Man due out in Sept 2003.
