Weedeater
Weedeater is Shep (guitarist), Keko (drums) and bassist/vocalist Dave 'Dixie' Collins - three wild-eyed troublemakers from Wilmington, North Carolina who've been gigging around the South for about five years (although they really can't remember for sure). The trio kept somewhat of a low profile during much of this stretch, as Dixie was devoting most of his time to his other band: the undisputed kings of confederate metal mayhem, Buzzov-en. Buzzov-en - whose pill-addled sludge and sociopathic stage presence earned them a revered spot in the annals of Southern rock history (and got them banned in just about every club on both sides of the Mason-Dixon line) - called it quits (more or less) in 1998. At this point, Dixie and Weedeater decided it was time to turn up the heat a bit; they took to the road soon after the break-up, and have been raging like the Seventh Level of Hell ever since. The trio has laid waste to venues on both coasts, including Berkeley's Gilman Street, NOLA's Checkpoint Charlie's (they've taken over Buzzov-ens coveted annual Mardi Gras spot), and CBGB's in New York, where they've played alongside Spirit Caravan and Angel Rot at the club's first Overdosage Festival (Dixie MC'd the festivities). They've also been writing material by the still-full. Their latest full-length eruption of monolithic sludge, Sixteen Tons, was produced by legendary knob turner Billy Anderson (Sleep, Melvins, Swans, Cathedral, Mr Bungle) and released on Crucial Blast Records in March 2002. This CD consists of 10 blasts of molten swamp-doom....Terrorizer Magazine said " Fu Manchu is miraculously melded to Necrophagia to create a sensation comparable to a pot-fueled beach party being overrun by zombies." Pick up Sixteen Tons and get battered!
