Throttlerod

Throttlerod was formed by Matt Whitehead and Bo Leslie inside a 10x10 self-storage unit in July of 1999 in Columbia, SC. After enticing drummer Jon McNabb and bassist Travis Nicholson with healthy doses of alcohol, darts, and Master of Puppets, the group gathered inside the tin shed in the sweltering Columbia heat and began writing songs. Two months after forming, the group quickly recorded a four-song demo titled By the Horns. A month later, the group played their first show in a Columbia parking lot, giving away dozens of demo copies on CDR.

Over the next few months, the band began playing shows throughout the Carolinas and Virginia and in the spring of 2000, the band signed to Underdogma Records, recorded their first album (Eastbound and Down), purchased a van, and began touring. For over a year, the band toured all over the United States and Canada, playing with acts such as Ted Nugent, COC, Clutch, Karma To Burn, Fu Manchu, EYEHATEGOD, and Nashville Pussy.

In September of 2001, Throttlerod parted ways with Travis and recruited Chris Sundstrom from Chicago, IL. Following this change, the group moved to Richmond, VA, seeking a better rock scene and easier access to other areas of the country. This move turned out to be an act of fate, when Jon announced his departure from the band in early 2002. Shortly afterwards, Throttlerod brought in Kevin White, formerly of the Richmond group, Sunnshine. Throttlerod was reborn almost three years to the day after it was formed.

In March/April of 2003, Throttlerod will travel to Boston, MA to record their second album, tentatively titled Hell and High Water, which will be out in August 2003 on Small Stone, recorded by Grammy Award winner Andrew Schneider (Scissorfight, The Blue Man Group, Cave In, Milligram, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Quintaine Americana, Cracktorch, etc.) at New Alliance Studios. Throttlerod will then come out swinging with a late summer 2003 release on Small Stone Records, followed by a massive touring schedule.
