The Modifiers

The Modifiers are a three piece indie-rock/tubescreaming pop band from Boston. Formed in the late ’90s, the band first began to attract attention playing the legendary Rat in Boston as a regular opener for bands like the Lyres, with punk rock you can hum along with and pop that shakes you by the lapels. From city to rural, unemployment to this year’s poor crop, or finding that elusive cheap 12 pack, the Modifiers have been primarily motivated by songs of dignity and despair.

April of 1999 marked the first full-length CD release from the band called Show and Tell put out on the bands own Cool Basement Records label. The CD was a mainstay on top 30 charts. It also caught the attention of TV and movie producers. "Passage Through" was selected to appear in the feature length film Massholes and songs from the CD were also selected to be included in episodes of MTV’s Undressed.

In October of 2000 Intelligent Records thought so highly of Show and Tell that they signed the band to re-release the CD on his Boston area based label. In support, the band played across the country in L.A., St. Louis and was asked to take part in a Chicago benefit with some of their best bands, including Sonia Dada, Michael McDermott and the Lovehammers.

In the late Fall of 2002, the Modifiers released their second full-length CD on Intelligent Records, Secret Frequencies. Noted producer/engineer as well as Push Stars bassist Dan McLoughlin recorded and produced the CD which showcases their ability to combine power chords, hooks, intelligent lyrics, sensibility, and guts.

Already, Secret Frequencies has earned glowing reviews and charted as high as #1 on college radio. The Modifiers will be supporting the new CD throughout the Spring in clubs around the country.
