Mistle Thrush
With influences ranging from icons such as Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd to contemporary artists like PJ Harvey and The Verve, Mistle Thrushs sound has been described as everything from sonic rock to dream pop. Steve Morse of the Boston Globe recently labeled the band "an expansive, psychedelic-spiced rock unit with influences from Jim Morrison to Kate Bush," while the CMJ New Music Report called them "remarkable" and "enchantingly moody." Billboard Magazine wrote, "Mistle Thrush celebrate warmth and midtempo rock structures, with ample vocal and compistional nods to such influential British bands as the Smiths, My Bloody Valentine, Lush, the Sundays, and Led Zeppelin."
With four albums, a 7" single, and 12 compilation appearances under their belt, Mistle Thrush has proven their resilience as well as their widespread appeal over the years thanks to great national press and non-stop touring. The band has shared the stage with such acts as Sonic Youth, Garbage, Spiritualized, Luscious Jackson, Morphine, Lush, The Strokes, Mercury Rev, and Love and Rockets, to name a few. Mistle Thrush's latest album, Drunk With You, is the follow up to 1997's critically-acclaimed Super Refraction which was co-produced with Ultra Vivid Scene's Kurt Ralske (Ivy, Swell, Lotion). Never one to be pigeon-holed, Drunk With You showcases Mistle Thrush's genre-straddling ability with nods to 60s soul, 80s New Romanticism, and bombastic nu beat. Drunk With You was co-produced with Grammy-nominated engineer Andrew Schneider (Blue Man Group, Cave In, Scissorfight). It's first single, "Small," has received substantial airplay on commercial rock radio throughout the country, which led to a full page article in Billboard Magazine and the band playing this past summer's WBCN River Rave 2K2 at Foxboro Stadium alongside Jimmy Eat World, Sum 41, P.O.D. and Outkast, among many others. Quite an amazing triumph for an independent, female-fronted band given today's male-dominated radio format.
For those seeking refuge from a market dominated by regurgitated metal and fluffy teen stars, Mistle Thrush deliver both substance and a solid kick in the ass.
