Girlband

Girlband plays some of the most intense, beautifully stripped-down, melodically-charged and tight-sounding skate punk released in years. They have found a formula that defies description and baffles those who try to. The only thing that can be acurately said is that it's got some skate-punk, some brutality, some beauty, great punk vocals... and that all of that is put into a blender with a teaspoon of social consciousness and a stick of beef jerky for that "weird bite" that grows on you.

Formed out of the wreckage of four hot girls who desperately wanted to sing on broadway (but needed steady relationships and other dangerous things more) Girlband became what it is today; a three-piece skate punk band who consistently overloads the West Coast with extremely man-ish looks and blazing, melodic skate punk. Humor, speed, melody and political awareness are blended into the finely-tuned musical force of this So-Cal trio.

The main difference that Girlband has going for them (beyond their music) is their awareness of all the garbage and generic music out nowadays that they simply refuse to buy into. They have developed a weird nack for being even more catchy than a lot of bands out there WHO TRY to just "be catchy." This is because they have a certain code of ethics lacking in a lot of today's music, and as a result, Girlband has a sound that would satisfy fans of both the old and new schools. Two points for the scene!

As far as the technical aspects of the music go, every song is beaten into the best shape it can be, while still somehow managing to tilt it to the "fun, simple side." This yields a totally rockin' package of songs that retain punk rock originality and vigor because they simply DO NOT make music for the sound of the moment, but rather for years of use during your most intense urges to just ROCK! In short, Girlband writes those good punk rock records that you put into your stereo, and then an hour later you end up saying to yourself, "DAMN, that IS a COOL record!"

These guys... I mean girls, are now finally getting props long overdue for their dedication to good old So-Cal skate punk. Their unique approach to the (currently watered-down) skate punk scene is as refreshing as the warm summer air smell of ... (insert early 1990's era skatepark).
