Dressy Bessy

Fans who just can't wait for more Dressy Bessy will be glad to get their hands on Little Music, a collection of early material from Denver's hottest band. (Release Date: March 11, 2003). Those familiar with last year's critically acclaimed and college radio favorite, Sound Go Round, will recognize the fuzzy twin guitars and beautiful melodies that have become a staple of the Dressy Bessy sound, while fans of pop-rock in general will appreciate the blend of '60s attitude with a modern feel.

Little Music compiles material from the band's various releases since their inception in 1998. The nine tracks on the CD were culminated from demos, 7" vinyl, EP, compilation, and export-only releases.

Given that the fact Little Music documents the infancy of Dressy Bessy, it is amazing how experienced the band already sounds. Part of this can be attributed to John Hill, the elder statesman of the group, whose melodic guitar had already helped propel Apples in Stereo to the forefront of the indie scene (he continues to perform double duty). Then there is the extraordinary talent of Tammy Ealom, who proves that her brilliant songwriting capabilities and exuberant vocals were already in full bloom. Transplanted Staten Islanders Darren Albert (drums) and Rob Greene (bass) provide the rough and tumble rhythm section that most pop bands lack, perfectly complimenting the sweet melodies.

The rock critics have taken notice of Dressy Bessy’s rise in the indie world. Tower Records' in-store magazine, Tower Pulse!, named Dressy Bessy’s debut album Pink Hearts Yellow Moon "One of the Top 100 Indie Releases of the Year 1999" and The Onion emphatically stated that Dressy Bessy is "one of the best reasons to see live music in Denver." After hearing the bands latest release, Sound Go Round, The Village Voice summed up their accomplishments perfectly: "Dressy Bessy’s no frills approach to their alternative bubblegum is a ball to listen to: pop drumbeats with a touch of funk, finger-picked guitar melodies, and simple but pointed boy-girl lyrics that make you bob your head a la '60s psychedelic pop."
