All Night
All Night consists of former members of late reigning kings of the Greensboro rock scene, and one of the finest bands this state has produced in years. The Mercury Birds, as well as Raymond Brake, The Childrens, and Rebar respectively, the members of All Night have dabbled in just about all of the rock sub-genres.
Originally started in autumn of last year, the band has already amassed an impressive repertoire and fan base. Beginning with Art Jackson and Sanders Trippe on guitars and Joel Darden on drums, the band added Chremos shortly thereafter on bass. The band later replaced the drummer giving the job to Neckbone who has found his place in the grit. Word spread quickly from the Triad to the Triangle and All Night soon came to be known as an honest to god rock and roll band, complete with three part harmonies, playing in everyones local bar. A few months later the band produced a six-song demo tape that found it's way into the grubby hands of a number of people that had attended a fairly spontaneous shows in the South.
The eleven-song disc suggests that it is much more than a casual attempt at an audible documentation. It comes across as a declaration of independence from the self-deprecating, flippant attitudes of a music scene that often shies away from things that could even remotely be considered appealing to the public at large. In a sense, it's comforting to know that a group of guys who have been in some of the better "indie" bands in recent memory could turn their enthusiasm for more "mainstream" tunes, particularly from that period known as the seventies, into their own legitimate musical vision. Without sounding the least bit pretentious, All Night sings unabashedly about working, drinking, and women in such a way that many of us can effortlessly relate to.
