Aalacho
Aalacho (pronounced: ah-lah-koh) is the creation of Nathan Scott, a solo-electronic-songwriter/producer blending a love of European dance/dj beats with his genuine affection for the production aesthetics and stylistic flourishes of the burgeoning American lo-fi/DIY movement. This New York City based multi-instrumentalist merges ambient house, retro, trip-hop and techno in a kaleidoscopic meld of seductive melodies, intriguing counterpoint and infectious rhythms. Sugar, Aalachos debut release, is simultaneously stylish, cerebral, cinematic and hypnotic. Hailed variously as "a refreshing voice in electronic music," "a weird and moody magic carpet," and the creative love child of Brian Eno and Trent Reznor, Aalacho takes its cues from house, indie-rock and vintage new-wave, infusing songs with a slowly increasing tension, flirting all the while with electro-clash and your best friends best friend. "Theres a bit of that German chilliness and some industrial-style fuzz, but dont let that throw you. This stuff is fun." Guitarists Brendan Titrud and Sam McIlvain contribute textural harmonics, layering a dangerous sexiness across half the tracks, while vocalist Holly Ayster turns out a deliciously whacko groove on "mr. monster" and Hannah Vaughan sweeps effortlessly through a post-modern spin on Fleetwood Macs "Sara".
