The Postman Syndrome
As the 21st centurys musical landscape begins to take shape, The Postman Syndromes debut, Terraforming, serves as an artistic guidepost for the creative evolution of songcraft.
The five musicians that make up The Postman Syndrome started writing music together in 1996 as eager high school students who simply didnt pay attention to the genre segregations of the day. Why must a band define itself as rock or metal, emo or hardcore, indie or mainstream? Why cant music be as instantly memorable as Nirvana and as bizarre as Mr. Bungle?
Early influences like Soundgarden, Primus, and Tool showed them that a band could be widely experimental without becoming overly challenging for the average music fan. The Postmen believe that a powerful song has the ability to strike the innermost chords of any listener, if only that song is composed with the absolute highest degree of passion and soul.
The Postman Syndrome wields three guitar players atop a proficient rhythm section, accentuated by a multitude of inspiring vocal styles that range from endearing melodies to agonizing force. Additional instruments such as flutes, trumpets, and acoustic guitars are occasionally blended into the mix as well. Postmans five distinct members have harnessed the strengths of each of their influences and molded them into something unforgettably original.
Modern commercial music grows stale while the public yearns for new sounds and ideas. The mainstream successes of artists such as Radiohead and Björk, and the fervent cult followings of Neurosis, Candiria and The Dillinger Escape Plan are testaments to this desire. The Postman Syndrome is among the new forefront of this movement, penning creative pop gems like "Rotating Crib Toy" and "Hedgehogs Dilemma part II," while at the same time constructing the art metal opuses "Volume Fact" and "Unfamiliar Ceiling." Most impressively, the group has created a sound that allows it to flaunt such diversity without ever sounding musically muddled. Each piece of its puzzle fits effortlessly into an exhilarating new whole.
With the release of Terraforming, The Postman Syndrome has stepped forward to offer unwavering support for the ideas of creative expansion, artistic integrity, and true musical diversity.
