Speedealer
Palms hard rocking Speedealer has completed work on their fourth album entitled Second Sight. Produced by Jason Newsted of Metallica fame, Second Sight hit stores on June 4, 2002. Tracking began on September 18, 2001 at The Plant in Sausalito, CA with Newsted at the helm, producing, and Kent Matcke (Stabbing Westward) engineering. Speedealer recorded 14 songs, 12 for the U.S. release and two bonus tracks for its Japanese and Australian releases. Among the songs that were recorded include "The Thin Air," "All The Things Youll Never Be," and "Leave Me Alone," the albums blistering opening track.
Speedealer was formed in Lubbock, Texas in 1994. Their first release was a self-titled album, which came out in 1996 on TRG Records, followed by REOSpeedealer and Here Comes Death released on Royalty Records, which went bankrupt shortly after the release of Here Comes Death. The band was signed to Palm in early 2000 by Michael Alago and Here Comes Death was re-released in September 2000 with new artwork.
Palm A&R man Michael Alago, who signed Metallica to Elektra Records in 1984, knew that Newsted wanted to start producing albums, so he immediately sent Speedealers demos. Newsted was ecstatic. "Speedealer is the first heavy band worthy of my 110 percent commitment since Metallica," says Newsted. Alago adds, "With Jasons 15 years of making extraordinary records with Metallica, he was primed to put all that musicality into production. Jason is a brilliant musician and friend and the trust I have in him is enormous. The new Speedealer album is going to blow peoples heads off... thats the intention."
