Rescue

In a remarkably short amount of time, the four members of Detroit’s Rescue have managed to cause quite a stir in the indie scene.

The band began in late-2000 as a side project for ex-members of Mycomplex and current members of Wafflehouse and Fordirelifesake. Rescue quickly became the leading priority and began to generate a buzz with their powerful live performances.

Rescue’s well-received first EP, Even People and Not the Odds was released in February of 2002 shortly into their second tour. iiiZine raved, "The songwriting is beautifully implemented through the use of start-stop breaks, wonderfully intricate (yet at times straight and chunky) guitar work; giving it an almost math-y feeling." Firesideometer called it "one of those rare rock gems that’s so complex and innovative that you’re left wondering what the hell it was that just hit you."

Rescue’s sound has been coined "technical post-emo rock" – and rightfully so. It’s the band’s ability to balance their experimentation with their more melodic side that makes their sound so intriguing; and more importantly, what keeps it all from going over anyone’s head.

Volume Plus Volume, Rescue’s debut full-length, was recorded in November and December of 2001 at the infamous Smart Studios in Madison, Wisconsin. Producer Mark Haines (Hey Mercedes, Braid, Rainer Maria) helped the band expand their rock sound. Bettawreckonize.com said "The quartet rides the fence between the intelligent, no-holds-barred riffage of Relationship of Command-era At The Drive-In, the desperate, angular meanderings of early Cursive, the high-energy, pop-sensible melodies of Woodson-era Get Up Kids, and the aggressive start/stop rhythms of Braid. If you ask me, in a post Braid/ATDI world, that is a pretty damn good mix, and a more logical starting point for new emo listeners than any of the stinkers that Rolling Stone, or Seventeen are currently spoon-feeding us as representative of the genre."

Rescue is putting the "work" back into "work-ethic" by touring seven or more months out of the year, and giving Detroit something to offer other than garage rock or trashy rap.
