The Covert Agency
The Covert Agency, which consists of Clint Weiler (drums and vocals), Tim Martinkovitch (guitar and vocals) and Mike Varga (bass and vocals) released their debut LP entitled 010 in September of 2000, but the track featured on this comp (File 22) was released on their third release: a self-titled Brown EP (March 2002). Since their first full-length, their musical stylings have evolved significantly becoming more intricate and also more forceful. The five songs (or files, as true CA fans would have it) included on the Brown EP serve as a departure from the Agencys musical roots as well as their normal daily routines. At the completion of the Brown EP, the Agency were just recently graduated and about to go their separate ways. However, they continue to collaborate on musical projects and are all in communications reach.
Some lyrical topics addressed on this EP are - prevail over desperation, angst toward the lazy, the impressions media leaves, and intense passion gone awry. The musical content is shifty but constant, and adheres to the Agencys traditional building of suspense, but strays in that the suspense leaves the listener yearning for resolution at times. Bold, beautiful, and raw - the Covert Agency does it again, but differently...
"The band checks too many styles (indie, power pop, good ol punk and even a dash of math rock) for a label to stick... a band with chops and potential" - Randy Harward, SLUG (Salt Lake)
"...melodic and straight forward" - Hein Terweduwe, Punk Updates (Belgium)
