Gate 9

Gate 9 is a Cosmic Doom powertrio. Gate9 saw to light of day in August in the year of 2000. Band members Jan, Are, and Jon have all played in various bands in quite different genres from pop, via punk to black metal, but they all share a common interest in slow groovy metal. The Gate 9 sound is a blend of Black Sabbathish doom and Kyussian stoner rock. A three-track demo, Dwarves of Might, was recorded in Easter 2001, and several stoner rock labels showed interest. Virginia-based Underdogma Records were chosen and in summer 2001, the work with the full-length album, Moon Ranger Gone Evil, began. Moon Ranger… is due to release April 2002, packing nine tunes of cosmic doom. The band is now working on new material for the next album with the working title Masters of Mediocrity (even rougher and sludgier). Plans also include a video from the album.

Recordings have had priority over live performances until recently. But now touring is on the band schedule. The band members have loads of live experience from other projects, so Gate 9 is a solid live act. Several past gigs featured fellow Norwegian stoner rockers Honcho (Honcho is also Gate 9’s future bedpartners in doom). Gate 9 has yet to visit other countries, but plan a tour abroad for the coming festival season.

Some excerpts from reviews of the demo:
"The best of the three tracks is the last, "Autodidact," a doom monster with heavy riffing and a well worked out dynamic, just listen how the song builds up to its main theme. This last mentioned track could also be written by Black Sabbath, I’m serious here. The production is also more than fine. The band mentioned that they already have enough songs to record a full-time long-player, time for a contract." –Daredevil Records Sept 2001

"The second tune has all the good qualities of the first one... and then some... and it’s quite refreshing when a singer in a band like this doesn’t try to emulate that Ozzy sound... Gate 9 once again made the right choice... The last tune has that Sabbath vibe when it comes to the riffage... huge riffs that oozes of doom..." Stonerrock

mp3 Track: " Queen of Hades"
