The Dragons
Rock N Roll Kamikaze was recorded and produced by Alex Reverberi (George Clinton, Van Halen and Terri Nunn of Berlin) in late March of 2001. The album is a testament to The Dragons strong song writing ability and concise musical vision. It was begotten with the legend of the traditional kamikaze pilots in mind. The album is also a testament to true friendships. Two of the songs, "Life is Cheap" and "Crying" recall the memory of Steve Foth, a friend and local San Diego musician who was murdered in 2000 in an alleged "drug deal gone bad." Musically, the album delivers pure, unadulterated rocknroll in the vein of bands like the Rolling Stones, The Ramones and the Texas Tornadoes.
Press gave the album a warm reception. "...multifaceted song-writing has entered the Dragons picture and made this album Rock N Roll Kamikaze one of the best rock records if not the best from San Diego this year," raves SLAMM. "...even though Kamikaze starts and stops with a requisite Rolling Stones/New York Dolls-style strut and stagger, the record is all heart around the middle," proclaims, Mean Street.
Mario Escovedo is Alejandro Escovedos (successful solo artist; member of San Franciscos notorious Nuns and Austins seminal cow punk band Rank & File) younger brother and Sheila E.s uncle, but he no longer resides in their show biz-shadow. After ten years, The Dragons have established themselves as a standing-room-only San Diego band, a formidable US touring act and an internationally acclaimed rock n roll band of the highest caliber. Billboard recently praised the band describing their latest release as "High-potency, burnin, no-frills rock-n-roll served up with a jolt..." The Dragons remain uncompromising and thus are amongst the leaders of new rock-n-roll revolution.
The Dragons are Mario Escovedo on lead vocals and guitar, Ken Mochikoshi Horne on lead guitar, Jarrod Lucas on drums and Steve Rodriguez on bass guitar.
