Mindspawn
Mindspawn's music is composed of sonic tapestries of darkly brooding drones, sublime rhythms, ominous ritual sounds, and bizarre organic noise. Prepare yourself for an intense journey through aural worlds of the past, future, and the recesses of the collective conscious. One can hear a variety of influences all interwoven in a fabric of eclectic, electronic hedonism that goes beyond any single genre or subtype of music. This is the sound of Mindspawn.
D. E. Williams began performing music in 1980, playing electric guitar for a variety of progressive rock and heavy metal bands. Constantly admonished by bandmates for making his guitar sounds 'too weird', D. E. left the rock scene in 1990. By 1993 D. E. had become simply "Mindspawn," and his focus shifted to electronic music. While continuing to experiment with sounds and recording some ambient pieces, Mindspawn spent most of the next few years writing, producing, and performing in the underground electronic dance scene. Two 'studio' albums were released, containing a mixture of dance and ambient tracks. On October 31st, 1998, Mindspawn released 'God Forgot,' an entirely beat-based CD of frentic rhythms and trance melodies. By early 1999, Mindspawn had abandoned the mighty breakbeat and was going further into deep ambient textures mixed with ritualistic overtones and dark ideology. In July of 1999, Mindspawn released 'Conversing with Zardoz,' Mindspawn's first full-length ambient CD containing tracks that were recorded between 1993-1999. This also marked Mindspawn's departure from Xcentric Records. Mindspawn formed a new label, Dark Seeds, that would focus on dark ambient releases, primarily in the form of compilations and collaborative works. In the winter of 2000/2001, Dark Seeds released "the sowing" a compilation of dark ambient artists including a track from Mindspawn. In the spring of 2001 Mindspawn signed with Inner Gravity Records, and a new album, Null Infinite, is due to be released in the fall of 2001.
Band Members: Mindspawn is one entity, but there are several people who flow in and out of the Mindspawn aural cosmos with frequency. Collaborators and rogues include: B. Brissette, Haslam, Matthew Florianz, A. Hirschfeld, the mad poet Horstung, T. Brainerd, and E. McCulloch.
