Behemoth

The Satanist (Metal Blade Records )
release date: 2/3/2014
by Mike Delano

Behemoth frontman Nergal (not Nermal, Garfield's nemesis) has defeated leukemia and hosted a Polish version of The Voice talent show, all while creating brutal death metal in his spare time, so it's kind of hard not to root for the guy. Thankfully, this new track from The Satanist makes it easy, since it's one of the more memorable songs in the band's catalog. I wouldn't say it's catchy – it is, after all, a lurching, doomy descent down a staircase into the abyss – but damn if that slow-ass riff hasn't been caught in my head all night.
