Ocean Colour Scene

Painting (Cooking Vinyl Records)
release date: 2/18/2013
by Mike Delano

Coming up on 25 years together, Britpop staples Ocean Colour Scene never had the stateside success that Oasis or Blur did. If you used to pay through the nose at Tower Records for UK rock mags like Q or Select, though, a cursory glance through any issue would remind you that even B-team Britpop was worshipped across the pond, so don't feel bad for these dudes. Especially since they've always made good music, of which "Painting" is a stellar (and surprising, given its from their tenth album) example. This is sunny, toe-tapping stuff that is disarming, charming, and beautiful.
