Nightfall

Cassiopeia (Metal Blade Records)
release date: 1/22/2013
by Mike Delano

Mediterranean metallers Nightfall continue to push their brand of accessible black metal on their ninth album, Cassiopeia. One would be hard pressed to consider them strict black metal nowadays -- as "Oberon & Titania" proves, these Greeks are much more comfortable in a traditional metal groove in 2013, with only hints of black metal sounds thrown into the mix. And it's a very lively and interesting mix, with a hard rock swagger and a continuation of the themes of mysticism and astronomy their previous record, 2010's Astron Black and the Thirty Tyrants.
