Hot Lunch | review | stoner | rock | Lollipop
(Tee Pee Records)
release date: 3/12/2013
by Scott Hefflon
Not much info out there on this band, and much of it's, uh, wrong. Perhaps there's a skater punk band with the same odd name, but this Hot Lunch is '70s acid rock, biker rock, or "protopunk blues boogie" (only writers use that phrase anyway). Big amps, lots of wah and distortion, Kyuss-souled stoner rock yahoo, and "Killer Smile" has drum fills Sabbath's Bill Ward would approve of. Or Brann Dailor from Mastodon, sure. Perhaps it's the name, and fact this is a self-titled debut for this San Francisco band, but this odd named band should be on more bearded lips, ya know?
This is not a review, really, just a lil preview blurb. See more previews here.
