Cancer Bats

Bat Sabbath - Bastards of Reality EP (Metal Blade Records)
release date: 2/12/2013
by Mike Delano

I'll agree with your argument that we don't (nor have we ever) needed a cover of a Black Sabbath song because the boys from Birmingham made them all perfect the first time. That hasn't stopped zillions of bands, metal and otherwise, from stuffing the last 40 friggin' years with Sabb covers, though. And I fully support the practice, because even when bands play it safe with the material - as Cancer Bats certainly do on this cover of "N.I.B." - these songs are still hall-of-fame classics that I could listen to all day long. And as long as the cover band doesn't commit an egregious fuck-up (which the Bats don't), I'll do just that.
