Devildriver

Winter Kills (Napalm Records)
release date: 8/20/2013
by Mike Delano

Devildriver's best album, 2007's The Last Kind Words, wasn't that different from the great Devildriver records that came before and after it, but it trimmed all the fat from their modern metal approach until just 11 fierce, memorable songs remained. The Santa Barbara crew expanded their ambition on the two albums since, and that approach has kept things interesting, while still maintaining the integrity of their trademark sound. This successful streak continues with "The Appetite" from Winter Kills, the band's first album with Napalm Records after a long run on Roadrunner.
