Baroness

Blue Record (Relapse)
by Scott Hefflon

Baroness are an amazing and diverse band who could get lumped into grind or clusterfuck categories because of their affiliations (band friends and labelmates), but they're so textured and well-versed, metal fans would be missing out on a real gem if they didn't snag this one and absorb it thoroughly. That's right, shitheads, no quick soundbite judgements, not even a once-through stream will scratch the surface. This takes a purchase, and repeat listenings, staring at the cover, wishing the booklet was all his Barry Windsor-Smith-esque art, not pretty decent lyrics that coulda been condensed to just a classy spread. A complex monster of a metal record. A must-have.
