The Press Corps

Urban Truth Rural Myth (Flotation)
by Scott Hefflon

This is not at all what I expected, given the band members former bands. The label's site sez "First full-length with members of Mudhoney, The Fluid, Green River, Mother Love Bone escaping the past and embracing the now!" The RIYL/signposts namedrop Guided by Voices, The Fall, The Who, and Elvis Costello. Confused yet intrigued, no? There's plenty of NY '70s glam nostalgia, dry '70s production, and finger-snappy, poppy rock here (and the grandiose rock sway "Sisters"), but there's just something lacking here, something that doesn't quite engage the listener like rock should. Perhaps the band members are just goofing around and having fun here, but I can't seem to get all worked up about anything here upon first pass. Investigate, surely, but with lowered expectations than the Seattle supergroup tag should create.

This is not a review, really, just a lil preview blurb. See more previews here.
