Manntis

Sleep in Your Grave (Century Media)
By Scott Hefflon

Best thing about Southern California's Manntis is what they DON'T do: They get right to the part when the clean vocals come in, and then they howl through that too. Breakdown chaos, thundering rampages, and dense thrash with hints of Swedish melodic death, but no dueling solos to be found, just melodic fills in the bridges (so it's a spice, not the meat of the matter). Perhaps what American audiences want from Dark Tranquillity, minus the soaring melodies, injected into beefy metalcore. I hope they can survive the stoopid name.
