Testing the Limits of What They'll Put Up With (Takeover)
by Tim Den

Kudos for being a "melodic punk/hardcore band" but not sticking to one formula. Nearmiss offer a multitude of colors and tempos on Testing the Limits of What They'll Put Up With, from Bigwig style tech melodicore (naturally, since the band features ex-Bigwig alumni), Quicksand post-hardcore grooves, to Taking Back Sunday emolicious harmonies. And the fact that the band never push any buttons or take any easy ways out makes you wanna like 'em that much more. The songs are all catchy as shit, regardless of subgenre, amazingly evoking the kind of romantic outlook on life that I haven't felt since I was a teenager. Whew, look what you've done to me, fellas. Got me all worked up and shit.

The anthems that made me and my friends sing when we were 16 and 17 were songs that weren't afraid of not fitting in: They chose emotional honesty over easily categorizable traits to deliver resonating impact that stayed with us for the rest of our lives. If you want that kind of an influence over you and your friends, you now know where to look.
