The Wake-Ups

Wanna Meet...? (Laughing Outlaw)
by Katy Shea

Polished Aussie American style guitar rock - in this genre, these guys are doing everything right. The sound is a competent, subtle mix of the zeitgeist of the popular music scene in America, mixed with some home-spun garage umph, especially on the opening track "Let You Down," and some smaller, nice piano-oriented melodic tunes like "Little Bird."

The Wake-Ups (AKA "The Scruffs") display their chops on some high-powered, guitar swirling, bad-ass powerpop "You Make Me Nervous," and really shine when they let their energy and power carry them to do what they do best: Play enthusiastic, lovingly-derivative, smooth rock songs.
