Sharp Cut (Bad Afro)
by Scott Hefflon

Scandinavia's Bad Afro is where it's at, and Sweatmaster is their new find. Following The Flaming Sideburns, yet probably having more in common with Gluecifer rock than the Mod-influenced garage rock of, like, The Hives, or the Stones-influence of the Sideburns, Sweatmaster rocks hard, filled with soul and swagger, as their single "I Am a Demon and I Love Rock'n'Roll" plainly states. The track led off Bad Afro's Pushing Scandinavian Rock to the Man III and was one of the true highlights of that comp. So do yourself a favor and dig deeper than Sahara Hotnights and The Hives and tap the vein of Swedish/Finnish rock'n'roll, pure and served straight-up (well, on the rocks) with no unnecessary packaging or hype necessary to wow audiences. "I Am a Demon...," the jerky-strutting opener "Hold It!," and the Misfitian "whoa-whoa"-laced "Tonight" are all great rock for bar-slapping, head-bobbing, fast-driving good times.
