Step Kings

3 The Hard Way (We Put Out)
by Adrian Bromley

I've never been into this groove-oriented/hardcore/rock band. Maybe it was something I heard on their last few albums, or maybe it's just the name. I dunno... But that's all changed with 3 The Hard Way. I'm not gaga over this 10-song outing, but I admit I am digging a good chunk of them ("California," "Zeroes and Ones," and "The Dove"). Producer Greg Below (a fellow Canuck) has brought Step Kings' rhythmic groove to new levels without doing it, and added a nice melodic crunch. It's safe to say that Step Kings are stepping in the right direction.
