Seven Storey

Dividing By Zero (Deep Elm)
by Tim Den

What a big disappointment. Seven Storey's Deep Elm debut, Based on a True Story, was one of my favorite "crank it up" records of '00, but Dividing by Zero sounds like the band's running out of ideas. Noodling around with b-side-quality riffs, I can scarcely believe guitarist/vocalist Lance Lammers is the same guy who delivered "So Soon." Where have the gorgeous, anthemic melodies gone? And why the hell did you record a full-length by yourself on an eight-track (from the sounds of it, anyway)? Guess we lost another one. Sheesh...
