10 years of Chaos and Confusion (Nuclear Blast)
by Scott Hefflon

Ten years... One might say Hypocrisy have evolved a lot over the years, but it's more that they've spread their wings, proving they can soar the skies as well as bleed in the trenches. From early death metal served straight-up, to blasts of blackened metal, to industrialish doom plod, Tägtgren and the boys show that no matter what trip they're on at any given time, they do it wholeheartedly, and with style and class. While hugely respecting their roaring and shredding brutality, I think it's the beautiful and tragic odes that've put this band on a pedestal to be revered by all walks of metalhead. Imagine, if you will, the sorrow of monstrous beasts such as King Kong, medieval dragons, and ogres (yes, like Shrek). Imagine the fearsome voice attempting to convey love and joy, yet mangled by generations of being hunted, hated, and misunderstood. Now add some bowels-of-hell guitar and a beat that pounds like a migraine. (It helps that Peter's one of metal's finest and most creative producers.) These 14 tracks were picked by the fans, so anyone who's yet to be embraced by the terrifying might and tragic laments of Hypocrisy, here's where to begin your journey.
