Handsome Devil

Love and Kisses from the Underground (RCA)
by Scott Hefflon

What underground? This is dumbed-down shallow radio rock. From Orange County, and not even as good as all the young'n'dumb Blink 182 knock-offs catering to teenage girls with disposable income and no sense of musical integrity. Handsome Devil have listened to the right bands, but they're either not bright enough or not worldly enough to write anything better than bad covers. The Ataris are far better, as are A New Found Glory, and these guys are older and dopier-looking. They're the first band signed to Lit's Dirty Martini label, and that and the misleading title are the only reasons I'm wasting my time on this drink coaster. I'll waste my time so you don't have to waste yours. Avoid this like being stuck on the subway or at a party or whatever in close proximity to a bunch of loudmouth jock dicks talking shit about women and trying to prove how cool they are. Painful.
