Converge

Jane Doe (Equal Vision)
by Paul Lee

A firestorm of emotional and caustic metalcore from Boston. From the outset, this disc tears into your soul like a hook ripping out your innards and hardly lets up until the end. These rabid fellas have released one of the best and most intense albums of the genre, finding a link between grindcore, emo, and full-on fucking hardcore with plenty of scary time-signatures and crazed chord progressions. The singer's screeching can get a bit wearing (I prefer the cookie-monster torture of trad grindcore), but that aside, Converge are a phenomenal band and this is a near-perfect album.
