Trying to Figure Each Other Out (Deep Elm)
by Tim Den

Jumping from the Metallica-styled riffings of their debut to The Get Up Kids quirkiness of their last long player, Brandtson have finally hit their stride on this latest EP, Trying to Figure Each Other Out. Gone are the easily-recognizable influences, plenty are the slippery hooks and swollen playfulnesses. The dual vocals of guitarist Myk Porter and drummer (yes, drummer) Jared Jolley are tighter and slicker than ever, recorded to crystalline sharpness by Ed Rose. Clever and infectious, with a bass player that just won't let up, Brandtson have risen to the Big Leagues. Welcome, welcome.
