The Queers

Beyond the Valley... (Hopeless)
by Scott Hefflon

Take a wild guess if this is bubble gum Queers or angry Queers. That's right, Joe's pissed off and keeps it pretty straight-forward this outing. He brought ex-vocalist Wimpy along for "Stupid Fuckin' Vegan" (great song that sounds kinda like the Vindictives) and "I Just Called to Say I Fuck You," and co-wrote the opener, "Uncouth," with Chris Barrows of The Jackie Papers. And while most of the songs are pretty darn catchy (like you'd expect anything less from Joe Queer), song titles like "Journey to the Center of Your Empty Fucking Skull," "My Cunt's a Cunt," "Just Say Cunt," and "Theme from Beyond the Valley of the Assfuckers" may limit radio play. But so what? The Queers don't pander to DJs who kiss the feet of every new over-hyped bunch of dorks, and they pull 'em in for shows regardless, so fuck radio. "Stupid Fucking Vegan" and "I Hate Your Fucking Guts" are both worthy additions to The Queers' ever-expanding live set, and I look forward to scream-a-longs to both.
